Thelma mostly specializes in any of the STEM majors, the teachers and faculty members are all there to hear you out, they're pretty easy to talk to! It's an early college high school so you graduate with an associate's degree in your major, it's definitely worth it since you can take that degree with you to any other college in Texas (Mainly South Texas College in McAllen). The class (class of 2023, class of 2024, etc.) sizes are pretty small, each being a minimum of 100 students. Unfortunately, they only offer interdisciplinary majors if you're interested in any other career paths. There are very few clubs considering most students usually spend time focusing on their college courses and high school classes. I highly recommend coming here if you're focusing on STEM majors.
Thelma R. Salinas is a small school that gives students the opportunity to receive their associate's degree while also working to gain their high school diploma. Around this school are three main high schools, all of which contain 600-800 students in each grade level. One thing that was very appealing to me about Thelma when I was in 8th grade was that it was small. Because of the small class sizes, I've been able to create strong and personal relationships with the students and the teachers around me. It is one of the only schools in the region to offer degrees in fields like biology and engineering, and the teachers are extremely knowledgeable in the fields they teach. It is also a very safe campus, and I never feel scared or worried about my safety.
It is an amazing environment in which you have all the staff to reach out too if you need help with anything. No matter what you may be struggling with, the administration and staff are always there to help you out. It’s a small campus so you will eventually have every single teacher and will get to know most of the students in your school. In Thelma R Salinas, you are able to graduate with an associates in math, engineering, computer science, biology or even interdisciplinary studies. It’s an amazing campus that offers amazing opportunities for those who attend.
