Our son went to Williston last year for a repeat junior year. Though his public-private high school in Vermont offered ample opportunities, the Covid experience had impacted his academic sequence and experience. He'd also come to realize Vermont's competition levels and potential for exposure didn't align with his aspirations for next-level play. Williston came well-recommended by a college friend whose son had been their for a few years, especially for its community. Even more than meeting our expectations for the sports, we were thrilled to see the community and academic experience energize him to new levels. He thrived with connections to students from around New England, the country, globe, and local community! We are thrilled with his academic interest and relationships. He is extremely excited to return for senior year, and I encourage any family seeking a prep experience to look at the school!
I went to Williston my junior and senior year as a day student. Williston changed my life! I met my husband there and our son is now a boarding student. I grew up in a very small town in western Mass and the local public high school offered few opportunities (my class was about 45 kids and we had a dismal sports program). I went to Williston for its great academics, diverse sports programs (I played varsity soccer and soft ball) and excellent music program (I played French horn in the orchestra and sang for the all-girls acapella group, Widdigers). Aside from Williston's academics and music and sports programs, what I truly loved was the beautiful campus, the community of engaging and supportive teachers and staff, and the incredibly diverse student body. I flourished those two years and met some lifetime friends. My one regret is that I didn't go my Freshman and Sophomore year, but I'm proud to have gone to Williston!
Williston has been a wonderful opportunity, every day i try something new and go through obstacles that help me grow as a person. I started boarding at Williston in ninth grade and i was terrified. It was my first time being away from home and it was a huge culture shock. However the community welcomed me with open arms and going into my junior year i couldn’t be more grateful! I was never really into sports before Williston, i never had the experience of playing on a team and i didn’t really know what sportsmanship was. When i came to Williston i was immediately thrust into volleyball for the fall season and i learned so much about teamwork. During my sophomore year i learned how to swim which was a life changing opportunity because i feel so much safer in water now. Without Williston i wouldn’t be at my greatest place, mentally, physically and emotionally.
