In pure terms of academics and college readiness, Vanguard is 100% the school for aspiring students into great colleges. The workload, after much student complaint, is similar to that of a regular high school but topics have a tendency to move along faster so attending children will need a higher grasp of comprehension to move along with the rapidly changing topics in classrooms. As for everything else about the college, it compares on par with any other school or worse. Teachers and students alike would whisper and complain about the administration of the school and how they would handle presented issues, mainly because administration did NOT handle issues. The only issue I heard of them fixing (I was not attending when this fix came to be) was that sophomore year had an insurmountable amount of work that students were unable to complete. To reiterate, that issue is now fixed, but many other problems still remain. The school also has the worst school spirit I have ever seen.
At the Vanguard School, we strive for success but I constantly feel held back by the boundaries in place set by administration, and teachers. Although the academics are excellent, I found myself in the dark about how to apply to college, and most importantly how to apply and win scholarships. Besides the academic life at Vanguard, the social life is very unique. We are not a private school but rather a public charter school. This leads parents to put their children into Vanguard to set them up for success so as a B average student, I constantly feel as if I am not hitting the mark to becoming a success later on especially since the social life of the students is very academically oriented. As for the staff, they are most generally positive encouragers to the students success. As for our Administration, I constantly feel as if they try to keep upperclassmen treated as young children rather than adults as many of us are.Overall, I admit my high school experience has been an exciting one.
The Vanguard School is a very safe learning environment for children from grades Kindergarten to Senior year. The school's academics are difficult but prepare children for college fairly well. The workload at home can be on the heavier side but teaches the children how to manage their time well. The teachers are always offering one-on-one help to the students and want all their students to succeed not only academically, but also in the future with non-academic challenges.
