At Town, meaningful learning happens across classrooms, disciplines and grade-levels. Our school motto, "let there be joy in learning," is not a charge but a lived experience. Our teaching is constantly informed by over 100 years of educating children; our commitment to a an inclusive school community; and accomplished, dedicated faculty, who are lifelong learners themselves, drawing from the best research and practice. We believe that this is the environment in which children learn best. This approach is what distinguishes us - and our students.
I am inspired by Town’s intelligent, committed, collaborative efforts that place our students at the center of their learning. Whether in the science lab, on stage, at a robotics tournament, on the basketball court or when engaging with our local community, Town students are confident and accomplished risk-takers, leaders, problem-solvers, scholars, and citizens. Town alumni/ae thrive in high school and beyond.

The Town School Reviews
Having no high schoolers really allows for Town students to grow into leaders and to take on active roles in the community. In the upper school, fifth through eighth grades, I served multiple terms in student senate (sadly I lost in my eighth-grade presidential bid). Playing ten-plus competitive soccer and basketball games starting in fifth grade not only helped improve my skills on the field, it gave me a head start on learning to be a teammate and a leader. These experiences served me well later when I would be captain of multiple varsity teams at Dalton.
Town instilled a deep sense of responsibility to others and to the world. Even years later, Town friends are like family and their friends’ families are an integral part of our lives.
New York can be a stressful place and Town was truly an oasis. As parents we will always be grateful for the stellar education and holistic, enriching experience that our kids had at Town!
While some places a slogan is just a slogan, Town literally lives the mottos of Joy in Learning and Joy with Purpose. The way they manage to weave together topics throughout different disciplines is amazing. It allows for true learning and understanding in a much broader way than I ever experienced throughout my early education. This approach also sparks real enthusiasm for the topics, which fosters interest and excitement to continue digging deeper. I wish I had been taught this way – I might actually remember something!
