The Tome School Reviews
Rating 4 out of 5 49 reviews
Great school for academics since it is a college prep school. Academically prepared for college, but not much help getting there. Counselors main concern is how much $ students can get in scholarships and not with process questions. High pressure school with no resources to help kids mentally and a small school so you are in the “click” or not and treated as such. Parents are the same way. If you didn’t start in Kindergarten together forget it, you are an outsider. When they tried to be more diverse (applause) they lost a bunch of students and seemed to tone it down because of the backlash. No cafeteria, but a service that will bring lunch in if you order in advance. Chorus that is fairly new and no band, just orchestra and nothing at all like public school, but a great teacher! All in all, stayed for the academics and college readiness, but glad to be graduating and putting the social aspect behind me!
They have some amazing teachers at here - super supportive and a wonderful college advisor. Their Math program is incredible and advanced, while their Science program is just starting itself fresh so there is currently many bumps in the road right now. They have a nice English classes with many oppurtunities for composition development. Foreign Language department is slightly lacking, as there are only three languages offered (French, Spanish, and Latin) but as a small school it provides a good variety. Their biggest weakness is the arts and music - there is a huge lack of it that is hidden from view. There is no credit courses whatsoever for art or music, meaning yearbook, art history, art, chorus, orchestra, and drama do not receive credit for participation, and each of those provided as an elective is weakened by the lack of support for those dedicated to each. But there is still much support and love from the teachers and others there regardless.
I really love the community at Tome. I have only attended for the past 3 years, but everyone treats each other as a big family since many students have attended since kindergarten.
