From The Taft School
When Mr. Taft established The Taft School in 1890, he envisioned it as a place that would educate the "whole person." That vision remains the guiding principle of the school today. It steers everything that the school does. Education at Taft is personal, moral, and ethical, as well as academic.
Taft's culture is inseparable from its mission, and the community is fundamentally shaped by a belief in helping young people become lifelong learners, thoughtful world citizens, and caring people. Taft believes in academic rigor, and delivers it with heart.

After visiting Taft for the first time in 2018, it instantly felt like my second home. The admissions receptionist greeted me with open arms and towards the end of my tour she even insisted on giving me advice on the boarding school process. I poured my heart-and-soul into my application and worked especially hard throughout the school year. When returning for my interview in November, the same receptionist was there. We even shared a few laughs and she insisted on giving me a freshly baked muffin for the ride home. During my interview, I felt extremely comfortable. My interviewer and I had great discussions and also shared laughs. Story short, if you are a student here, do not take this for granted! On the contrary, it is currently 13 days until admissions response day, I cannot express how badly I have been waiting for this day to come, hopefully I will be able to become a Rhino!
The Taft School is a welcoming, diverse community that consists of individuals of various ethnicities, races, sexualities, genders, religions, and political views. The teachers are of good quality and are educated in the respective subjects that they instruct. The academics are healthily rigorous, so it's not too difficult to the point where you'll fail all of your classes. There are plenty of extracurriculars and clubs to participate in, no matter your interests.
As an international student, Taft has welcomed me with open arms and has given me opportunities to part-take in experiences that have most definitely shaped my work-ethic, morals, and desire to give back to my community. I came in my freshman year wanting only to succeed academically, but left as a captain of a varsity team, a dorm monitor, and as a musician. That being said, Taft, like many other schools of its calibre, also struggles with issues regarding drug and alcohol use, but is readily making changes to become a better school.
