From The Saklan School

Saklan is a progressive school that valued project-based and student-centered learning long before those terms came into vogue. The school understands the importance of striking the right balance between hands-on learning and strong academics. Saklan’s program implements project-based learning in a manner that gives every individual an opportunity to explore their passions within each curriculum area. Our approach, coupled with a rigorous curriculum, creates deep, authentic learning experiences.

Our family ADORES the Saklan School!

It is a hidden gem just minutes from our home in Lafayette. Every day our 5th grade son can't wait to go to school. Because of the small class size, amazing faculty and project-based curriculum, he has a true love for learning.

The school manages to balance strong academics with a culture of empathy and community service. A typical Saklan student is confident, curious and incredibly compassionate.

We have wonderful public schools in Lafayette, but chose Saklan to provide a more nurturing, academically stimulating and creative environment for our son.

Saklan is a gem of a school. The students show up each morning excited to be there and to engage with their teachers. The school provides a top-notch education which includes how to be a caring, articulate, confident human.

One of the highlights of Saklan is the performing arts program. No, it’s not a performing arts school, but the quality of the musicals and concerts they put on each year would astonish you! Because it’s a small school, the performing arts teacher gets to work with the kids from preschool through 8th grade, and knows how to push them a little more each year.

The teachers at Saklan, including an award-winning (female!) science teacher, dig deep into the material – way past the test taking level—to make learning interesting, fun, and exciting. I wish I could have gone there as a kid, I can’t imagine a better place to learn.
While there are many areas that stand out at Saklan for me two of the most important are the approach to teaching and the strength of their social-emotional program. Teachers understand how to take the curriculum and make it come alive for students. They partner with the student to help the student connect the curriculum to the real world. Learning becomes personal, hands-on and rigorous. In the area of the social-emotional, Saklan knows how to push students to high expectations while simultaneously supporting each student. This hands-on learning, with high expectations within a supportive environment, is what makes Saklan unique and powerful
