You are not required to do any sports. For the afternoon physical activities requirement, you can choose to participate in gardening, wood working crew, landscaping, sugaring instead of sports.

While there are very little to no student-started clubs and activities, there are multitudes of school offered physcial and creative activities to choose from. The lack is because students are already occupied with other things. However, i mind you it is more of a student led school than most schools because students run so many leadership positions (including sitting in on Admissions Committee and board of Trustees).

Leaderships, work jobs, and afternoon+evening activities are the extracurriculars students take part in here.
Review The Putney School
I only visited the Putney School but I got a feel of it very quickly. From an hour and a half tour, I learned that if your not a "cookie cutter" kid, this school is perfect for you. I, on the other hand, am not. We were first introduced to the gallery which showed the students' gifts, and also showed a lot of darkness. There were few sports and many of them were small and very non-competitive. A lot of the students seemed unhealthy and unhappy. There were also many great things about the school. Kids could follow their true passion, art for most. The food is either grown at the school or locally and a whole building is powered only by solar power.
Putney changed my life. No where else would I be able to design my own fashion design class, live a cabin without electricity and water, question everything with support and help from my amazing faculty, sit on the admissions committee, cook a Vietnamese dinner for the whole school, among countless of many other things. Thank you for everything Putney.
