As a teacher at Patchwork, I am SO happy, and I consistently find that children and their families are, as well. From a teacher perspective, the hours are incredibly reasonable, administration is transparent, philosophy practices what it preaches, and any problems are always taken care of in a timely and democratic way. We practice non-violent communication with children, who are free to choose activities that they are interested in. We also use an emergent curriculum, which allows teachers to guide children in finding their interests and niches, if you will. The safety practices allow children to safely explore their own physical boundaries, advancing learning about being in their bodies and how to regulate themselves. Patchwork does not focus on academics, but rather lays an extremely solid foundation of socioemotional growth, empowering children to move on to public school seamlessly.
My child has been attending this school since he was 1.5 years old. Our family is so happy to have found a community in our first school experience. We love the social emotional focus as it has helped our child become more confident in himself and his voice. We also love the "safe as necessary" policy, which allows for our child to explore his boundaries in a natural way, with guidance from teachers and other students.
This is not the school for you if you are used to and wanting a "top down" approach to schooling. At Patchwork the teachers and students work together as a community, each learning from the other.

I have no idea where these bad reviews have come from. The teachers and staff are like family and are so emotionally focused on my children. They truly care and love each child individually and see and hear them. I love this place and am so happy we have found it for my two children. The outdoor play space is wonderful and the free play and democratic education offered there is exactly what we were looking for.
