Transferred to The Oakwood School in the eighth grade. I found the school to be challenging and very good at preparing students for a liberal arts education. As a second semester freshman undergraduate, I am grateful for the education that I received there, especially in the arts and english. Although, I developed great friendships at the school they could improve in the area of ethnic and cultural diversity.

For being the most expensive private school in the area, this school is NOT worth the money. Although the school creates a welcoming atmosphere, academics is lacking compared to other college preparatory schools. I can testify to that because my children now go to a different college preparatory school that has significantly better academics. There have been dozens of students that have left Oakwood in the past couple of years to attend other schools in the area, which says a lot. There’s no school cafeteria and the food that is delivered is unhealthy. Children eat their lunches at their desks in the classroom. Discipline of students who bully or misbehave is weak; however, hopefully that will change when the new headmaster starts in 2018/2019 school year. Although Oakwood has the potential to be an excellent school, my experience was quite disappointing.
Perfect environment for our daughter who has attended K-7. Excellent balance of academic rigor, social engagement, intra/extramural activities and the arts. Teachers and administrators who genuinely care about the students.
