The Newman School is a hidden gem in the heart of Boston in a very safe area. The extra 1:1 attention teachers provide to student learning is exceptional and the exposure to other students from around the world and the greater Boston area has been an invaluable experience. Given its small size, the environment fosters close friendships and an intimate school setting where children can thrive and be themselves. I would strongly recommend this school in heart beat!

I realized Dover-Sherborn High was not for me as I struggled with standardized teaching/tests, large classes, and social pressure. I excelled at Newman because of the socio-economic diversity and overall belief in acceptance. I was the first to attend; however, fellow Dover residents then decided to join me. I took the train everyday and enjoyed the freedom as the city was my campus. I focused on school, sports, and even internships. The teachers are completely focused on helping students succeed. Newman only offers small classes and one is guaranteed individual time with teachers. One can choose classes in which one is interested. I took 2 languages and science classes. Traditions, including joining one of the 'Houses' (Exeter, Fairfield, Dartmouth, Clarendon) and daily morning meeting, are unique and special. I was Salutatorian and attended UVA, my brother attended Wake Forest, and my sister was Valedictorian and attended Duke. I would not be where I am today without Newman.
I have been teaching at the Newman School for many years. It has always been a safe, wonderful place for students in our city. Since the implementation of the International Baccalaureate program 10 years ago, the students have been exposed to an international curriculum, which serves them well as they advance through IB, to college and forward in their lives. Students find the program challenging, but also rewarding, as they take risks and learn to think differently.
The headmaster has been instrumental in implementing the IB program for grades 11 and 12 and the MYP (Middle Years Program) for grades 7-10. The supportive environment is perfect for students to work hard, enjoy sports and clubs, make friends, develop awareness of the world, and prepare for the future.
