The New School is a thoughtful community where students feel intellectually excited and challenged, and appreciated as individuals by their teachers and peers. Such thoughtfulness of mind and heart makes for a rich and happy school environment.
We are committed to small classes where teachers and students co-create the learning, and where teachers engage students in supportive conversations about their work and growth. Through class participation and dialogue with their teachers, our students come to understand themselves as successful learners.
Our curriculum focuses on applied learning and critical and creative thought. We know that giving students choices in the direction of their work fosters “ownership” – students feeling invested in their work and positive about themselves.
Our graduates emerge as self-reliant, skilled learners, decent individuals who have a strong sense of self and are prepared to succeed in the colleges of their choice.

The New School of Northern Virginia Reviews
We expected her English and humanities classes to be great, and they are. My daughter's ability to research and write has improved dramatically. But the science classes have been wonderful as well. She's learned chemistry by building and exploding fireworks, and physics by assembling a music synthesizer.
At the end of the quarter, the students present a capstone paper/project to the whole community, and they learn some fascinating things from each other.
The teaching is outstanding, and administration is highly responsive and helpful. Overall, my family could not be happier with this school.
