The New School is a thoughtful community where students feel intellectually excited and challenged, and appreciated as individuals by their teachers and peers. Such thoughtfulness of mind and heart makes for a rich and happy school environment.

We are committed to small classes where teachers and students co-create the learning, and where teachers engage students in supportive conversations about their work and growth. Through class participation and dialogue with their teachers, our students come to understand themselves as successful learners.

Our curriculum focuses on applied learning and critical and creative thought. We know that giving students choices in the direction of their work fosters “ownership” – students feeling invested in their work and positive about themselves.

Our graduates emerge as self-reliant, skilled learners, decent individuals who have a strong sense of self and are prepared to succeed in the colleges of their choice.

Both of our kids started at The New School in ninth grade, after eight years of public school. It was one of the best parenting decisions we've ever made. Everything about this school is terrific. The teachers are passionate, inspired, and inspiring. Small, topics-driven, seminar-style classes foster creativity and independent thinking, while the welcoming atmosphere makes everyone feel at home. Our two kids turned out to be very different kinds of learners, but both thrived at The New School. Our youngest graduates next year, and we'll be sad to think of not having that day-to-day connection. Can't say enough about this wonderful school!

This is school the way it should be. After being just a faceless kid in the crowd in public school, my daughter transferred to The New School and it has been wonderful. The environment is warm and caring, and she loves her classes, teachers, and community. The students get to choose their courses, and the topics are fascinating.

We expected her English and humanities classes to be great, and they are. My daughter's ability to research and write has improved dramatically. But the science classes have been wonderful as well. She's learned chemistry by building and exploding fireworks, and physics by assembling a music synthesizer.

At the end of the quarter, the students present a capstone paper/project to the whole community, and they learn some fascinating things from each other.

The teaching is outstanding, and administration is highly responsive and helpful. Overall, my family could not be happier with this school.
The New School truly engaged my child in a manner that public schools could just not support. Teachers interact with the students, students participate in daily discussions/debates on current topics, collaborative projects are daily. My child's writing and deductive reasoning skills have improved immensely based on the approach. The teachers are the best - they will do anything to help your child learn and improve themselves. I just can't say enough on what a difference it has meant in my child's academic and social development.
