The New School Reviews

My experience at TNS has been life-changing. With my first semester being over now, I can confidently say that The New School is something special. I first heard about them when my mom showed me a USAToday article about a former teacher donating 100k back to their community. At the time, I was planning on leaving my old school, but the school I applied to put me on the waitlist, so I really had no other options. Thankfully, my mom encouraged me to apply to TNS (despite it being late March/basically the end of the school year), which helped me realize just how perfect The New School is for me. It has nearly everything I was looking for in a High School: an open-minded and proactive community, a practical and rigorous curriculum, and a fun, safe learning environment. In other words, my introduction to TNS was a godsend during a very tough time at a good school with unwelcoming kids.

After spending a year and a half at The New School, I would have to say that I am largely disappointed with what it has to offer. As a private school with a student body below 100 students, it affords each student some great privileges that many schools cannot (e.g. entrepreneurship program, internships, etc.), but there are several organizational factors that tarnish what could be a great school.
A positive experience for students. Obviously a small school lacks sports but they try. Clubs and activities are numerous considering the size. The school can sometimes coddle students too much for a strong sense of college readiness but they try. Overall a wonderful environment.
