My time at TMLA has been up and down. I like size of the school. The guidance department is great, and they have done a great job prepping us for college applications. There are tons of options for activities. Traditions like TMLA Christmas and Spirit Week are things to look forward to.
Sr. Kathleen's leadership as principal is okay. She has been a teacher/administrator for years, but doesn't seem to know how to handle issues with students. The way she handled the racism issue at the beginning of this year was weak in her communication with us (blaming the students who were offended). There is a problem with students being shamed for not doing well, when it is often a result of mediocre teaching. If a class of 25 students are consistently getting 70s on tests, they are still told they are not working hard enough, creating even more stress.
I know that TMLA was the right place for me. Every school has its flaws, and the people you meet at The Academy make it worth it.

Great people, you will make long-lasting friendships, and the focus on female empowerment is really great. However, avoid the principal at all costs. She's cold, harsh, bitter, and negative. No idea at all on how to deal with high school age girls. She literally thrives off of the fact that the students are afraid of her. She is by far the least progressive member of the faculty and administration. Most all other faculty are accepting of LGBT students except her. She is the one part of this institution that should be changed.
I loved all the events such as the Christmas Party, Spirit Night, Cultural Harmony (to name a few) and all the extracurriculars TMLA had to offer. For 4 years, I was a member of the Badminton Team, East Asian Club, and Robotics Team. However, I could not have achieved the success in this school alone. Many teachers and friends have helped me along the way, and I will always remember them. The only thing I would change is for the administration to be more inclusive and accommodating to students of diversity, when it comes to religion, people in the LGBTQ+ community, and the like. Otherwise, a great majority student body is accepting of them.
