This is my second year here at Leelanau and this school has been an integral part of my life. The Leelanau School is a wonderful place on a beautiful campus. Surrounded by Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore, there is no shortage of nature and beautiful views. A slow river meanders through the campus adding to the natural splendor. The teachers are absolutely AMAZING and are the foundation of the school’s values and success. The hands on learning coupled with teacher’s desire to educate creates a perfect storm of academic achievement. This school is deserving of everything!
Leelanau practices an approach to education rooted in the best research and proven strategies. Its commitment to a personal, responsive and whole-person experience it not just words. They create structures and accountability that puts philosophy into practice. Because students are known and respected, and they have relationships with teachers and staff, the entirety of the experience is authentic and meaningful. This results in greater motivation and student ownership in the learning process. Thinking is deeper. Reflection is more profound. Learning is more lasting. Graduates of Leelanau show great agency, intellect, self-awareness, and enthusiasm for their next adventure in life.
Caring and inspiring teachers in an amazing setting. Classes were small and engaging and were very hands-on. I developed a deeper world view while attending and am thankful for that every day. The school is small, but the experiences were vast and eye-opening. It was a great high school experience!
