When picking the perfect school for my 4 boys, I had a list of criteria that I wanted that school to have and Independent met all of my expectations. This was 14 years ago! My oldest graduated from TIS last year and even thanked me for sending him to TIS because he was so prepared for college. Each of my boys have different strenths and passions and have been allowed to persue each and every dream with full support of the the faculty and even more importantly their friends. Independent allows your child to try things they may not get to in another school and maybe find a new passion. This is a school I would recommend without hesitation to anyone looking for a school with a curriculum that excels, teachers that are caring and comitted and parents and children that support each other.

A family oriented school that works hard to teach their students a rigorous curriculum, but also to respect all people. Students are encouraged to be unique, instead of fit in a pre-fabricated box, like other private schools. It's truly a gem. I've had three students at this school, each with their own challenges -- each succeeding at different levels. Overall, their experiences with teachers, administration, and other students have been incredibly positive. Granted, there are always blips, and no perfect school -- but I feel that any of my concerns have been addressed, and that my children and I matter. That, in and of itself, means a lot to me!
Teacher to student ratio is very good (class sizes are 6-12). Not all teachers went/go through the same rigorous qualifications processes that teachers do at public schools. Some teachers appear to care very little about their students, and certainly nowhere near the level you would expect from an environment with such a small teacher-student ratio. The building/facilities, with the exception of the Football/Track stadium, is dated and in disrepair. The lunches cost nearly 2x what they do at public schools, and aren't worth it. The academic support is awful. It’s basically a sink or swim mindset. If your child is a high achiever, they might do fine. If your child is average or even of a lower achieving type student, you will have problems. The only support for even some traditionally difficult subjects is non-existent. RUN, don't walk away from this school!
