From The Hill School

The Hill School is a coeducational independent boarding and day school for students in grades 9-12 and post-graduates. Founded in 1851, Hill is a small and close learning community—a place where our reputation for academic excellence is based upon a challenging and expansive curriculum rooted in a strong liberal arts legacy; a faculty of highly qualified, dedicated teachers and advisers; and a structured atmosphere that blends high expectations with meaningful support. At Hill, faculty and students from around the country and the world live and learn together -- they treat each other as family and form lifelong friendships. Daily family-style meals, family nights in dormitories, and weekly Chapel meetings are just a few examples of what define and distinguish The Hill’s community. As a school, we value principles of honesty, genuineness, empathy, respectfulness, and kindness; character is not so much taught as lived, as represented in the School’s motto, “Whatsoever things are true.”

Hill is a mediocre boarding school comprised mostly of wealthy, white, trust fund kids of average intelligence, who feel they're entitled to the best of everything, but, expect to get it sans working for it. However, you won't learn anything truly substantive about Hill on Niche from all the positive reviews written by members of one graduating class. More realities about Hill. The food is adequate, but tasteless. The sciences are weak. Students and faculty are generally indifferent to the needs of students of color, who, by the way, aren't made to feel welcome. For families of color considering boarding school, unless you're an International family applying from Asia, pass on Hill.

After attending Hill for a few years now, I can’t imagine my high school experience being any different. The Hill School is my home! I feel welcomed and cherished by my classmates, yet I’m challenged and pushed through academics and sports. I love the environment I’m provided with and the countless opportunities that helped me find my passion. I feel well prepeared for a bright future.
I would rate my overall experience at the hill school highly. I am very thankful for the chance to attend a school with such open resources, great teachers, wonderful facilities, and a great variety of teams, clubs, and people groups to be a part of. I have been provided with an amazing opportunity to attend this school due to my immense work as a hockey player and the scholarship in and financial aid I was provided. It has been an enlightening experience to attend boarding school, live all the way across the country to attend school, and meet all new and different people. It had brought me out of my comfort zone and allowed me to discover myself and who I am through attending this school.
