The High School for Language & Diplomacy Reviews
Rating 3.46 out of 5 37 reviews
While this school is changing for the better, my experience the last 2 years have been much less than satisfactory. Teachers are very lenient when it comes to grading and very rarely try to challenge their students. The guidance counselor has been of very little assistance when it come to accommodating my needs and only after months of pushing was I able to get into the classes that I am qualified for. There is little to no participation or interest in any clubs or other extracurricular activities. Overall, I feel like being at this school has stunted the development of my education rather than furthering it which is what a high school is supposed to do. However, I will say that the environment of LAD is very fun and the factor that has kept me here are the people who attend the school.
My son is a freshman this year. He was an A student with horrible lottery number. Two days before the school year started, we went to an open house and was so impressed by Dr Lisa Wang. Dr Wang is a passionate leader and has already made changes. She has made positive changes with the staff so far. She has updated the curriculum. Adding new AP options, financial literacy, a college guidance counselor shows her dedication to the school and students. The school is changing for the better.
The teachers are great and super helpful, with the exception of one or two. I had the best time studying here, and as international student I was able to blend in very well and fast with no problems, thanks to the school community.
