Overall the school is good. I feel safe and I LOVE my teachers! They are brilliant and kind. Some students are a little mean but for the most part, everyone is nice. The theatre program is underfunded but strong. Sometimes I feel like there is a stronger focus on athletics vs. academics, but the academic program is still really strong. I feel confident I am being prepared well for college though. The school isn't diverse and the food is mediocre. Mental health resources are available, but not enough. I still love the school and highly reccomend it!
I attended Heritage many years ago. I have a sibling who still attends which allows me to keep up with the school. THS's strongest asset are the driven and intelligent students whose collegial success is due to their own merits, not Heritage's. The pandemic has revealed the school's lack of initiative, nimbleness, and imagination from leadership. Despite having all summer to plan for student's return in the fall, the school is having all students return to campus with "face coverings required in some cases" (so not mandatory), classes will be held inside despite the plethora of outdoor space they could have utilized for meetings, and online support for students who would have wanted to learn from home does not include Zoom meetings with teachers. What could have been an opportunity for Heritage to outshine surrounding Georgia schools who made the same mistakes, has instead revealed a desperate need for quality leadership. The students, families, and teachers deserve it.
From our first tour the school seemed perfect for our kids. The teachers are happy, the staff is great, the campus is beautiful.
But after our first week I was already concerned. Parents bring in cake pops and donuts on a weekly basis, candy is used to as a reward in the classroom, birthdays are celebrate with cookie cakes, and weekly baking activities usually include processed packaged cake mixes. In the upper classroom students can purchase soda from vending machines or with their lunch.
