Our son has been at The Haverford School for eleven years and is currently a sophomore in the upper school. Haverford has been a fantastic environment and investment. The faculty fully understand and embrace the nature of boys and learning and the educational experiences span the classrooms, sports fields, music hall and beyond. This past weekend our son had an off-site cross country meet and the turn out from the Haverford community included the Headmaster, teachers, parents and pets - a great, lasting community - Preparing Boys for Life!

Haverford is stubborn. Despite its excellent faculty and staff, and high endowment, Haverford as a community struggles to adapt to changes. Boys are cliquey and often make new teachers uncomfortable. AP classes aren't offered, because teachers aren't willing to make the requisite changes to their courses.

In my 11 years at Haverford, I have never felt welcome or appreciated. I am not the norm- most students find their place here and are accepted for who they are. Yet, it should be noted that there is a significant minority who do not, myself included.

Visit this school. Get a feel for it. Get your son to talk to kids here and figure out the culture. Absolutely do NOT just apply here and enroll because it has flashy rankings and figures. You won't go wrong with going to Haverford, but you might still regret it, especially if you had the option of going to a similar school like EA or Shipley.
The best experience you could ask for, all the kids are friendly and talented, and the teachers actually care about how the students are doing. Aside from the top-notch academics, the extra-curricular clubs and sports are phenomenal. The programs offered are all well run, and the campus at Haverford is fantastic. The all-boys environment is very helpful, in that the curriculum can be catered towards boys and boys can be themselves when learning. Overall a great learning environment, kids can have fun, while having a very strong educational learning experience.
