The Expedition School Reviews

Overall, the school is very good at making the children self-aware and aware of the feelings of others. School spirit is apparent in the elementary school. Self-sufficiency and self-regulation is promoted in the middle school. Parent involvement is excellent. However, experience and communication from two different partner teachers two years in a row has not been optimal. Communication from primary teacher is good. Communication from partner teachers has been poor and has occurred only when there was regression noted on the report card. Communication could be improved by letting parents know of accomplishments or failures prior to report cards.

Excellent project based school. Year round learning. Children are frequently taught in nature and incorporate walking field trips into many of the lessons. The most wonderful teachers and administration that a parent could ever hope for. Kind, encouraging, intentional and child-centered learning. Muti-grade classrooms allow for mentoring (1/2, 3/4 etc.) for kids to learn at their own pace. Excellent specials teachers!: Art, Music, PE and Spanish. Wednesdays are half day, for teacher planning and Clubs are offered. Nestled in historic Hillsborough near Riverwalk and Goldpark. Wonderful and active parent involvement through the Parent Association (TESCA).
My children (now in grades 5 and 8) have attended for 4 years and love this school. TES follows a project-based learning model and encourages learning and requires active participation. The elementary school offers combined classes (grades 1 and 2 together, & grades 3 and 4 together in the same classroom) so students can flex up or down depending on their ability. Each grade is capped at 44 students. Teachers are committed, creative and supportive. Administrators are thoughtful and responsive. Our family feels very lucky to attend this school.
