ECG has been such a different experience for me. Before, I attended a private school and two charter schools. I was too young to remember the private school properly, but my experience at ECG has been so much better than my previous schools. First, everyone is so focused. You never hear a teacher tell the class to stop talking or misbehaving. Substitutes always leave glowing letters of praise back for the teachers. Also, our current principal memorized all of our names within the first few weeks. Granted, there are about 50 students per grade, but that is also a benefit. Everyone knows each other (or at least most people) and we can even be close with many of the upperclassmen too. ECG also has many clubs, but because we don't have many teachers, all our clubs are student-led. We have boards full of only students--we run our elections in the spring. Students at ECG also plan most of our events like school dances, our talent show, and fundraisers. I'm so grateful that I can attend ECG!
The Early College at Guilford has a great community and great teachers. Although the trailers aren't the best, the environment overall is great. The school has an atmosphere towards academics. The first two years, especially Sophmore year, are the hardest because of AP classes, although you can get a lot of credit. However, this pays off in the last two years which are a breeze while getting you credit for college. Overall a great school!
The Early College is very academically challenging, especially during Sophomore year. Hence, I think it is a great school for individuals who are very driven and ambitious. Even the smartest students will be challenged at this school whether it be in academics or in time-management. It is a very close-knit community because of the small class sizes--there are approximately 200 students in all. The Early College classes taken during the Freshman and Sophomore years are generally much more difficult than the Guilford College classes taken junior and senior year. Hence, the best part about the school is being in an ambitious community with faculty and peers who always push you to improve. The worst part is that, in going to this school, you rarely have time for anything besides school. Especially sophomore year, where I was following my 7 hour school days with 3-6 hours of homework per night.
