I work at The Darrow School and my experience has been amazing. The curriculum is top-notch, with faculty and staff that are committed to the students and each other. The school culture is warm, respectful and embracing of everyone. Students are engaged, encouraged and supported in all facets of boarding school life for a well-rounded experience that promotes healthy socio-emotional, academic and physical development.

Darrow has amazing facilities and program offerings for a small, independent boarding school. From our top-notch performing arts center for music, theater and media engineering, to the he Kurtz Innovation Center, where students explore new technologies, to The Living Machine™, the country's first ecological wastewater treatment center located in a high school, to name a few.

I consider myself lucky to be part of Darrow and encourage families to give our a school a look for themselves!

I am a Darrow graduate. I am also dyslexic. The Darrow faculty recognized my challenge. They taught me how to learn in new ways. My classmates opened my eyes to the world of differences. I will forever be in debt to my classmates, the committed faculty, and Darrow’s Shaker heritage. My experiences at Darrow altered the trajectory of my life in wonderful ways. Though I graduated a number of years ago, I return often to the beautiful mountainside campus. I enjoy seeing and hearing the excitement among students as they explore ideas; the willingness of older students to mentor younger students; and the genuine concern the current faculty invests in teaching Gen Z. The Darrow experience infects all - whether a student or a parent - who encounter its milieu with an indescribable sense of purpose, uniqueness, beauty, acceptance, challenge, fairness, diversity, serenity, community, caring, supportive, and reverence. The Darrow experience lasts a lifetime.
Darrow is a special school. Students flourish, whether they arrive looking for more than they had or aren’t sure what they want or need. They quickly engage with each other, the faculty, and the active, hands-on curriculum. They are often astounded by how much and how soon they enjoy learning and school. Their parents are even more astounded. The beauty and calmness of the natural environment surrounding them adds to the feeling of security. The support structures in place, the varied opportunities, the traditions, the diversity, and the evidence of the values of trust, respect, and tolerance all serve to make Darrow an incredible learning and living environment.
