From The Colorado Springs School

The Colorado Springs School creates an environment where you can cultivate your passions and realize your full potential. We believe every student deserves to meet the world with ingenuity, critical thinking, and personal integrity.

CSS is the only age 3 - grade 12 independent school in Colorado Springs. Our committed teachers, dynamic curriculum, small classes, and real-world seminars reach and teach you in authentic ways.

At CSS, you learn actively, collaborate with your peers, present your work for review in a variety of media, and take time to reflect on your experiences.

Together, we'll be solving real-world problems, not just reading about them in a book. You'll be encouraged to think broadly through exploration in and out of the classroom, including a trip for each grade level each year.

After graduation, you'll be well-rounded and ready to share your wisdom and insights to make your own impact on the world.

Experiential Learning at CSS

Active learning is our style, so as a student you'll be out of your seat, engaging with other students, and enthusiastically participating in your learning. That might be going outdoors for a hands-on trigonometry lesson or to the campus pond to collect samples to examine under the microscope. It could also be studying biodiversity in Madagascar. Experiential learning happens every day at CSS.

My son joined The Colorado Springs School last year for 4th grade, and he absolutely loves it! He often tells friends and even strangers about all of the co-curricular classes he has such as Spanish, Drama, and Computer Science. He thrives in the small classes as he was often overlooked at his last school in such a large class (27 students versus 16 students at CSS). A highlight for him has been his 1st-grade book buddy, and they have even sent each other letters through the mail. He appreciates the sprawling campus and how much he is out of his seat during the day for learning. He says, "At my last school I just sat and sat and sat all day - but not at CSS!"

I’ve been at CSS in several capacities for 18 years, the longest tenure of my career. I appreciate the administration, staff, culture, students, facilities, programs, and parent support. I’m proud to represent Kodiak Athletics and how our athletes compete on every level. We prepare and play to win, but not at the expense of life lessons and character. CSS is committed to developing the whole child and athletics is one of our conduits for this personal growth. Every MS and HS student is encouraged to play a sport, and we have 98 percent of students in at least one sport. We have one State Championship in boys basketball (2007) and many Regional and State appearances. We compete in highly respected and competitive MS and HS conferences. Our facilities are impressive and well maintained. I am fortunate to be employed by such a healthy and impactful institution.
Since we’ve been at CSS, our children have become strong young adults with a deeper level of integrity and appreciation for differences in others. All of our children have said that they wish they had attended CSS earlier but we are grateful to have found CSS when we did. Our kids’ test scores have consistently demonstrated a mastery of the course material, however our family cherishes the experiential aspect of the CSS education the most. The experiences in which our children have participated have been life changing. The faculty has consistently demonstrated an interest in not just teaching our children but also getting to know each of them personally. We can’t say enough about the big picture benefits of the type of education CSS provides.
