My experience at the Charter School of Wilmington was largely defined by the covid 19 pandemic. During my time at the Charter School of Wilmington there have been three presidents, and considering that for about a year school was online, the change in leadership is pretty significant. I feel conflicted about the quality of my education at Charter because I felt as though there was little to no freedom to choose courses until my junior year, and by then most of my peers at other schools had already taken several advanced placement classes. The Charter School of Wilmington also fell short on their Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives, they bring in speakers to talk to students about racism and mental health. However, they did not release a statement concerning racism and the black lives matter movement until forced to by students. As a school is a majority-black area, Charter is mostly White and Asian, another concern students have, which Charter has failed to address.
Academics-wise, Charter School of Wilmington is one of the best schools in the state. The students are extremely driven and motivated to work hard in all subjects. While the physical conditions of the school are poor, the school remains to be excellent in all other factors.
I appreciate how the school prepared me for my college STEM courses by providing great science and math classes, as well as English and writing skills.
Your experience is all about what teachers you have. I felt that I had decent teachers, for the most part, they helped me outside of class and were very supportive. There are some teachers that just did not work for me.. maybe their teaching style or something. I also met some really amazing people here and I feel like the workload helped me prepare for college.
The Charter School of Wilmington is a pretty good school. The teachers are all really nice and do whatever they can to help our understanding of the subject. You have to be prepared for fast-paced learning though. You will have to put in a lot of hours outside of school to do well and learn comprehensively.
Very rigorous education and teachers care about the students. A good school for students who want to reach their full potential and will work to do so.
I like the school because the teachers are very good. They really care about how you are doing and if you are struggling they will do their best to help you understand. The only thing that hurt my experience was the changing of principles for 3 out of the 4 years causing there to be no clear leader of the school.
My experience at the Charter School of Wilmington is amazing. I was surround by people who believed in me and had classmates who always their to help every step of the way. The teachers here actually teach and are able to guide you every step of the way. This school helps their students become ready for college as a priority. They only wish wish best for their alumni.
this school is very great when it comes to education, would not recommend it if you are more interested in arts because it does not offer art classes of any kind without having to enroll/audition for Cab Calloway. The staff are very helpful, caring people; & it offers very fun high school experiences
I’m a senior at Charter this year and I’ve enjoyed my time at this school very much. Both the teachers and students are passionate towards teaching and learning, and the competitive environment definitely drives motivation and success.
The school definitely accomplishes its goal of preparing students for college academically. I developed the skills to learn and study on my own as well as working in a group. The teachers have ups and downs, but overall the teachers are a wonderful group of people, and I feel like I can walk up to every single one in the halls to ask questions. Though not incredibly diverse, the school does have groups and clubs that uplift these voices , as well as many meetings throughout the year to learn about diversity and inclusion. The food staff are very nice people, and the quality of food is similar to that of the rest of the district. The facility is kind of small on its own, but with the connections to Cab Calloway School, it opens the normally science math school to have ways to enter into the world of music and art. Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth the application, but be prepared to work hard and don't be afraid to make new friends!
Charter can be an amazing school most days, but there are moments when the student body feels ignored by the administration. Over the past 4 years, the admin office has gone through multiple heads which could be the reason for that instability. Overall, the teachers are great and the education is unmatched.
The Charter School of Wilmington in Wilmington, Delaware is the best high school in Delaware in preparation for college! It is THE high school that offers science, technology, engineering and math focus. Many college students that attended CSW have told me that they were better prepared for college than many of their college classmates that attended different high schools! I have even been told that college is easier than CSW. If you are looking for a high school to challenge you the Charter School of Wilmington is for you! You will be surrounded with teachers and diverse classmates that will inspire to think critically, problem solve and collaborate. The students at CSW are driven to give their best. The rigorous environment is filled with hard working students. The Charter School of Wilmington promotes academic excellence but that’s not all they have a rich history of community service and offer diverse experiences to build and foster the future leaders!
Rich white people are favorited, administrators pick favorites and go after specific kids. Lots of teachers do not teach very well.
As a freshman at the Charter School of Wilmington, I very much enjoyed my first year. The transition from middle school to high school was very comfortable due to the endless support from teachers and upperclassmen. The abundance of clubs and activities mixed with the cutting edge technology provided for learning opportunities leads me to believe my education will thrive over the next three years.
