At Celia Cruz high school; something I can really appreciate is the opportunities the school offers to its children. Every year a variety of programs (musical and academic), Trips, internship opportunities, and job opportunities are presented to students that attend the school. For example, I was recently presented with an opportunity to go on tour in Canada next April! Another positive trait about this school is that they always offer you the option of selling candy boxes in order to afford big and small trips. Celia Cruz aims to help and teach musically talented students and in this aspect, it does a fairly good job, but other traits such as the school's cleanliness, phone policy, and the bathrooms always being locked aren't as favorable. The school also doesn't have anywhere for students to sit and relax. You are usually forced to eat in the lunchroom and if you have a free period you just have to sit in the back of a random ongoing class until the bell rings.
I love how all students are required to have a music class. From all the good words spoken from alumni that have visited, it’s proven that their method really brings their students closer to their instrument and music all together. The staff could be a bit calmer when trying to wrangle the students into class, but other than that it’s a great experience if you’re interested in music!
This is an amazing school! My kids' teachers, counselors, and administration were so caring and encouraging. Very kind and LGBTQIA+-friendly students and staff. Also an excellent program for assisting and accompanying students with the college application process.
