The Cathedral School is set in the heart of a 13-acre campus unlike any other in Manhattan. Within this unique environment, we cultivate our students’ natural curiosity into a passion for lifelong learning. We believe in a rigorous academic program that blends innovation and tradition. From kindergarten through 8th grade, our dedicated faculty challenge and support Cathedral students as they grow into critical thinkers, thoughtful scholars, and culturally competent leaders.

A sense of community is essential to life at The Cathedral School. We welcome all faiths, and value each child as a whole person, with respect for their individuality and worth. For our students, participation in our nationally-recognized Identity Curriculum allows them to broaden perspectives and celebrate identity, culture, and the wonder of human diversity.

We are committed to academic excellence in a curriculum that integrates critical thinking, the arts, athletics, and leadership development.

What an incredible school! The academics are top notch - exceptional training in math, writing and critical thinking. The school emphasis character formation throughout the entire curriculum. It is a warm supportive community for students and families alike. It is an oasis of excellence and wonder hidden away among flowers, trees and peacocks. I can not recommend it highly enough.

A very tight-knit, welcoming community. Truly at the cutting edge of equity, diversity, and inclusion for independent schools. There are clubs and identity affinity groups that meet during lunch for students. There is an identity curriculum in the lower school.

Assemblies emphasize core values of school.

Almost 100% of students in 5th-8th grade play a school sport.

Students have lots of opportunities to lead and impact the school.

Academics are rigorous, but with lots of built in supports. For example, 3-4 times per week teachers have "office hours" while students have study hall.

Parents are involved. Teachers are responsive. Students go on to top independent and public high schools (e.g. Brearley, Dalton, Riverdale, Trinity, Spence, Packer, Choate Rosemary, Loomis Chaffee, Friends, Sacred Heart, Bronx Science etc.)
The Cathedral School is a hidden gem. Our daughter has thrived in the warm and nurturing environment of the school since she started in kindergarten. Located in a rare oasis of nature on the grounds of the cathedral, the school just built a beautiful extension with a new library and media room. The school takes its mission of forming “articulate, confident and responsible citizens of world” very seriously, reinforcing throughout a rigorous curriculum and school life generally all of the school’s core values. The school stands out for its truly diverse community of which we are lucky to be part.
