From The Buckley School

A K-9 independent boys school in New York City, Buckley is built on over 100 years of tradition and supported by a passionate and active alumni base. Yet a hallmark of the School is its desire to look forward, driven by a dynamic faculty and a shared pursuit of excellence. The School prides itself on educating the whole boy, with as much focus on building character and community as on teaching fundamental skills. At the heart of the School’s philosophy is a belief that by asking boys to participate in all areas of the program—from the classroom to the stage to the playing field to the podium—they will grow into young men of confidence and compassion, ready to be the thoughtful leaders of tomorrow. At Buckley, every boy does everything, and the whole community is stronger for it.

Public Speaking

academic spotlight

The public speaking program at Buckley begins in the early years with poetry recitals and play performances and culminates with the storied Woodruff Public Speaking Competition and the Gates Bowl for Debate in the Upper School. As a result, Buckley boys graduate with a comfort in speaking in front of a crowd, and many have gone on to compete for their high school and college debate teams.
