My experience at the academy at Shawnee was pretty good. It’s a nice friendly school with wonderful teachers and lots of potential. Some things I liked there was the jrotc and the aviation program which is the only one in Kentucky I believe. They have also renovated the school around with more space and finally opening up the top floor that’s been closed off for years. Some things I would like to see different at the school is the way people look at the school. It’s always been considered a bad school but it’s not bad, just in a not so good area. They have been working on that in the past years and I feel like a change is coming.
Personally, I feel like if the school was given a little more funding and love, the school could successfully thrive. There's so many bright kids that aren't living up to their potential because they don't have the resources they need. There have been times when there wasn't a teacher available for a month or two and the only classwork we had were worksheets printed off the internet. I've witnessed so much talent, whether it's sports, intelligence, or some kind of craft. We just don't have anyway to build upon it.
The area in which the school is located shouldn't reflect the on school, but in this case it does and that's why people think it's unsafe and terrible. Still I personally feel like Shawnee is a great place and with a little more love, it could be alot better.

I have gone here for a total of three years, in those three years I have had 4 principles. My school has gone through high teacher turn over rates and the student have gone through not knowing if they will have a teacher the next year or a permanent sub. The Academy at Shawnee has gone through a lot of changes in the past school year. Another new principle is one of them. However, since the new principle has gotten here things have improved a whole bunch. We have amazing programs including Aviation and Engineering, Medical and ROTC. These programs are amazing and will prepare the students for college or for life after high school.
