The Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences is a very rigorous and academically focused school. While it's relatively new and small, compared to other larger high schools, they provide many benefits and opportunities to high school students at an early age. Students are able to physically attend school at a community college amongst other college students and actually attend lectures taught by real professors. Not only does this allow students to become accustomed to this diverse environment, but it also gives them a taste of what college is really like. In addition, The Texas Academy of Biomedical also provides students the opportunity to obtain an associates degree during their time there. However, because this school is academically driven, there are very few clubs and other out of school activities, like sports provided. Students are also omitted from many school events that other traditional high schools would hold, due to the fact that they're located on a college campus.
Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences is a perfect school for people who want to pursue their dreams in the medical field. It is a small school in a really nice environment. With only 500 students, you know everyone in the school and all the teachers are very interactive with every single student. You are able to take college classes with college students and can earn your associate's degree. The only negatives are that there are no extracurriculars and VPAs. The school's diversity is poor with 90% of the students being Hispanic. The school is located in a nice college campus with campus police around.
TABS excells at offering numerous academic opportunities for students. I've been able to benefit in many ways from this school, mainly from the college-like experience. The campus is on TCC property and allows high school students to have college professors & be in a more professional environment. TABS provides freedoms that other high schools do not offer, so we have had to prove our responsibility and be self disciplined. These traits are important in preparing me for college, and I'm confident that I wouldn't learn these skills as well in any other school. This environment has helped me mature, grow as a student, and shown me how to take academic responsibility. The variety of unique classes that TABS offers has helped me realize some of my career interests. The main way I think TABS could improve is to offer more extra curriculars. I feel limited in the options I have at school. There isn't as much emphasis on extra curriculars at TABS because so much time is spent on studies.
