My experience at Terry Sanford High School was quite nice. I arrived in the middle of my freshman year and was very focused on STEM. Though we are a rather diverse school, there still is an inevitable form of auto-segregation among students due to contrasting economic stances and racial/ethnic backgrounds. The school does not have much funding for the arts which is aggravating, but if you are interested in STEM then this is definitely the place for you.
I believe that a lot of the college readiness part of Terry Sanford depends on whether or not you are in certain things. If you are apart of scholarly organizations, you'll get that extra help so I highly suggest working hard to get into those programs. The classes are not hard, yet I highly recommend taking any courses taught by Mrs. Vajner- those were challenging!
Overall, it's a great school. I just wish some priorities were straightened to diversify the programs offered. I had a good experience BECAUSE I worked hard for one.

Terry Sanford High School is perhaps the most well respected and well known school in the community I have grown up in due to its history. When I first began at Terry Sanford we had a lot of school pride, making the days a little more enjoyable. Perhaps the biggest flaw at Terry Sanford is the lack of teachers who care about education. Most of my time here, I had to fight for my teachers to appreciate my work or to allow my voice to be heard. My time here has been full of different administration, coaches, and staff every year. Because of this, school pride fluctuated every year making my experience here average. I am appreciative; however, of the change and adaptability I have learned from being apart of this student body.
I love Terry Sanford. It’s my high school and almost a second home. I have met some of the best people here and my closest friends. But of course, not every place is perfect. There is not an even amount of support in all extracurriculars, as one would expect in high school. And there is a problem with cracking down on students who indulge in in appropriate and illegal behavior while on schools grounds. I am highly grateful for the Global Studies program for keeping me shielded from being exposed to the brunt of that, but I also feel being in Global excludes you from the population of the rest of the school. Additionally, the School of Global Studies is funded mainly in part by students who do not deserve to be there but have enough money to pay their way in. It’s the negative plus positives that leave me to review this school with 4 stars.
