I read some comments regarding race separation between white and asian students. I strongly disagree with that characteristic. The school makes no such separation. There are a lot of immigrant families in our town who's children don't speak English so we have the ELL program to help them. There are students from different countries at the ELL program and naturally they first make friends with their peers from the program who also speak their native language. In addition, immigrant families from the same origin country tend to befriend each other and so their children spend time together on family gatherings or in after-school programs that cater to sustain their heritage (all different kinds of immigrant groups in our area have those) which naturally will make these students gravitate towards one another in school. Again, this is totally out of the school's control and no separation is ever driven by the school. My white kids have many close asian friend who they befriended in school.
Other reviews have mentioned a split between the asian and white students, from my time there I only remember 2 separated more isolated social groups: the ELL Korean kids with more English Fluent Koreans, and the ELL Israeli kids with more English Fluent Jewish kids. The divide likely appears more significant to many, but without seeing what happens in ELL classrooms you can't see the whole picture. The Korean and Jewish kids spend 3 years together in a more community based and collaborative classroom and become friends.
Other than that sidenote as with any public school teachers are a gamble. Even now, one of my favorite teachers has been from TMS, while others caused me and a lot of other hardworking and smart students to do poorly and taught improperly.
I do miss the $3 school lunches though.

The diversity is fine, but the amount of separation there is between races isn't. All the Koreans are grouped together, and it's very rare for them to befriend someone of a different race. The majority of the white kids have the same problem.
Second, we recently had a Social Emotional Learning day. During Family Life, we were asked to bring colored pencils if you wanted to color instead of yoga. In my class of 70, 60 people bought colored pencils. The 10 who forgot were asked to follow the yoga instructor. Everyone was a bit uncomfortable doing this. There was this one Korean who was especially uncomfortable and was essentially doing nothing. One of the teachers came up to her, but before he could say anything, another teacher just came up and said, "It's fine. Just give her a 0".
This disgusted me. First off, it's SEL DAY. You don't threaten someone by claiming you're going to hand them a 0 for an activity that's supposed to alleviate mental health issues- what irony.
