Tappan Zee is a very good school for education, with many teachers providing ample work to aid the students in succeeding. Teachers like Mrs. Farish, Mrs. Drivas, and Profe Walsh make the learning experience easy and fun, providing fun labs and activities that support students instead of causing them to fail. Tappan Zee hosts many clubs, allowing students to get involved with their school and peers. Model UN and Science Olympiad are great for learning outside the classroom, and the Environmental Club and Social Justice Club are amazing for activism. Clubs, in addition, to sports, allow students to experience all aspects of a high school. Despite the lack of sports like Boy's volleyball, Water Polo, or Esports, the school has many sports catering to students' athletic abilities. The football and basketball are lively, and the fan section is electric.
I had many experiences at TZ. In Freshman year I dealt with the loss of a friend and the school allowed me to take the day in school to sit with counselors and take time to myself. Later in the year Covid hit, it was a little confusing for a while but they did pull it together. In sophomore year I was allowed the option of going to school on a hybrid schedule or staying home all year. Originally I chose hybrid but decided I would rather stay at home, that transition was seamless. That year I also got to further my passions, joining clubs like Social Justice which I would go on to be vice president of. Junior year I went back to school in person, I was able to become a part of many different honor societies, took part in the school play, and went to different sports games. I was also able to go to the Wellness Center during times of anxiety and was offered great support there. The guidance department was also helpful with academics and the college search.
Tappan Zee High School has allowed me to complete courses in fields and topics that interest me such as Anatomy & Physiology, Athletic Training, and Issues in American Society. I feel as though it has set me up very well to succeed in college and the professional world. One thing I would like to see changed is the amount of Honors courses offered. I have taken Spanish throughout my secondary school experience, and have always desired a more rigorous course than the regular class that all of my peers were taking.
