I am a Tamiscal parent, and can't say enough for the school. My daughter came to Tamiscal as a junior and then as a senior she joined the Pathways program. The teachers and counselors get to know every student's unique strengths, they are supportive and caring and respectful. The students are kind to each other; there's very little in the way of popularity contests and other often toxic high school activities. The academics are as good as any of the other high schools in Marin. I HIGHLY recommend Tamiscal for an independent-minded, curious student who wants something different from the typical rules-based, rubric-based, large high school.
Incredible school & programs, perfect independent experience. Really did change my life, and teachers are awesome!
I love Tamiscal. The staff is amazing— teachers are knowledgeable, kind, and accommodating to each student's individual needs. Academics here are equal in rigor to the bigger schools in the Tam District. One could argue that the program is even more difficult due to the responsibilities that come with independent learning. Being a student here takes a lot of self-discipline. Tamiscal has a close-knit community of unique and talented students. Many students are enrolled in pre-professional programs, which preclude full-time attendance at a traditional high school. There are athletes, dancers, musicians, artists, and many other students who participate in intensive extracurricular activities. The social scene is different from that of a traditional high school, but it isn't exclusive. Everyone is friendly and you're able to learn a lot from those around you.
