I went to Taft School District my whole life and it the only school I know. For being a small school it is a great community with lots of opportunities for involvement in clubs and sports. A lot of the teachers are great and caring, especially the coaches. What the school lacks though is academic readiness. It is not strict on assignments and does little to prepare students for tests such as the ACT and SAT and for college. It provides enough resources for sports and cubs, but almost none for academic self-improvement. It is a good school with an opportunity to grow within the high school but does not focus on the importance of work, education or self discipline needed for the world.
I have been a student at Taft ISD since my sixth grade year. I came into this school district speaking only Spanish. It was a struggle for me since I not only had to keep up with my classmates but learn English at the same time. As the years went by, this school district has helped me keep up with my classes; especially Taft High School. The teachers that this school has are teachers that care about each individual student. Since Taft High School is not a big school, it allows for teachers and students to have some good communication. I do wish that the school had some more diversity. In less than a year I will be attending college and I am scared to be around people that are different than me. Other than that, this district has opened doors for me and has giving me the necessary to continue my studies and one day achieve all the things I set my mind to.
I'd say I've had a mediocre experience at Taft High School. The teachers and staff, for the most part, are nice; though not all are willing to help when help is needed. Some teachers do have a problem with favoring the athletes of the school when it comes to grades and drug testing; the people who clearly do drugs are the ones that never get drug tested. The staff here at Taft also have a big problem with procrastinating; everything is always planned and done last minute. There are some good things that go on at this school. School spirit is very much encouraged. The teachers who are very nice are the ones who are always willing to help when help is needed. The athletic girls' main coach has a very bad favoring problem and she covers up for her star athletes that do drugs. The school itself could be a very nice place, but some teachers/coaches need to fix their ways.
