Syracuse Academy of Science Charter School Reviews
Rating 3.51 out of 5 57 reviews
I had a better experience there with having a more diverse student body and having more challenging classes. I also was afforded opportunities to take college courses before graduation. However, I wish I had more. There was only so much that the school could afford being a charter school, and it wasn't known for its athletics so an athletic scholarship wasn't plausible. So even more academic opportunities would've helped.
It's a college preparatory school which focuses heavily of the sciences. If you are looking for extra help in your studies, this school focuses on making sure their students understand what is being taught. The school might not have a wide range of AP classes or extracurricular activities, but it does offer college courses and you're always welcome to start a new club that will be supported by the staff.
SAS is a pretty average school. It's filled with both faults and potential. There are many problems with punishments for students when they act out. This leads to lots of disrespect to teachers. There aren't a lot of club options for students and there are less opportunities for students to explore passions. The robotics and band team are decently funded, but the drama club has been completely disbanded. I've been at the school since 7th grade and there can be fun things to do when the school's higher ups allow it. My Turkish teacher took some of us on a trip to Disney which was wild, but now he can't do that. Since the school never sponsored the trip the students had to pay from pocket to go, which dissuaded many from going due to the price. The students also seem to have an air of apathy to them due to how the school spends it's money. Events planned always seem underwhelming so students end up not going. All in all it's an OK school. It could be better, but it's not the worst.
