Syosset High School provides students with a myriad of opportunities, ranging from elective classes to clubs. The staff prepares students for college through many guidance appointments where the counselors discuss their future plans. However, the high school tends to claim itself as the cause of many accomplishments that students have achieved, undermining their own efforts. A teacher's kindness hides their incapability to teach, showing only Google definitions on a slideshow, and the teachers give too much homework. This lack of free time makes it difficult for a student to do well in school while also maintaining relationships with family and friends. The competitive environment makes sports and clubs more difficult to do well in, and everyone is cutthroat. It is nearly impossible to do clubs, sports, and many AP classes at this high school because of the challenging workload, and this just makes it more difficult for students to stand out.
Very competitive, and at times very overwhelming. You never know how well you're REALLY doing against your peers and classmates and it's very hard to keep people close due to the super competitive environment of the school. However, that is not to say that the teachers teach very well and make an effort in helping students understand the material. The school provides a lot of, and a bit too enthusiastically, positivity in such a fast paced and competitive environment.
My experience at Syosset Highschool was something I'll look back on for my entire life. As we all know school was particularly cut in half for most of us for the fact of covid. I will say that Syosset Highschool did a great job at keeping the situation very calm and relaxed as I know many other people struggled during the pandemic. One thing I would also like to add is the people you will meet, I met some of my best friends here and will never take it for granted. The love I feel for the people I met whether its just friends, fellow teammates, or even someone you got into a relationship with I will never feel anything but love for these people. Thank you Syosset High School for all you've done for me and what you've probably done for others.
