Summit Public School - Denali Campus Reviews
Rating 3.9 out of 5 31 reviews
Summit Denali is a very small school, where practically everyone knows each other. It's a very tight knit community and word spreads around very fast. There is an appeal to these factors, but the school itself isn't as great as they have advertised. It labels itself as a "college prep school," but there's little prep happening. The school is practically all virtual and expects you to figure out college applications by yourself, which is difficult for first generation students (which is about the majority of the school population). Student experience at this school is also terrible, with teachers quitting every year and deans that abuse their power and don't know how to handle situations correctly or effectively. The teaching is not effective at all with extreme amounts of favoritism towards students. There is no place for sports to be practiced at this school, no library, no counselors, no parking spots for students, and don't get me started on the food. If I could transfer I would.
Denali is shutting down this year anyways, but the school was alright. Located in an office building, it never really felt like a school. Most teachers dropped out after only a year or two (usually less) of teaching. Students were left to learn with substitutes who were not even educated in that subject. On the bright side, there is hardly any homework and you can easily finish all work in class. There aren't as many tests, and more projects or essays instead.
I enjoyed my time at Denali, but unfortunately it had to be closer permanently. I loved the mentor aspect of Denali. The way you have one adult to guide you throughout all four years of high school is really great. I just wish they pushed students more. For example, we don’t have any homework, so they should incorporate more hands on learning during class sessions at the least.
