My parents enrolled me into this school during my Junior year as my GPA was far below UC/CSU expectations and I needed clear guidance for my future (I couldn't talk to my counselor as much as I would've liked at my previous school because of the school's population). I was reluctant at first, mainly because I wouldn't be able to see my friends as much. But after almost 2 years at this school, I appreciate my parents' decision immensely.

This school provided me the opportunity for a 2nd chance. With its small mentor group system and college-like schedule, I was able to dramatically increase my GPA and learn a lot more about college. Due to the school's small population (400), I felt a lot more comfortable with the school's culture compared to my previous school.

My only problem with this high-school is it's campus size. Although I do like the small population, the compact campus makes facilities (restrooms specifically, we only have 1 facility) a lot more busy.

Rainier's small population and the implementation of mentor groups helped foster a close knit community and many lifelong friendships. The way that the curriculum is designed allows for students to move ahead in learning material, which benefits students who tend to work faster. The teachers, for the most part, take their time to make sure students are clearly understanding material.
However, the way the curriculum is designed does not suit all students and those who cannot keep up are often left behind. Additionally, since the school is fairly new, the administration is constantly making changes without taking into account what the students want and need.
I started at Summit Rainier in my Sophomore Year and having moved around quite a bit, I knew that it would take some time getting used to my environment and making new friends. Surprisingly, is was not difficult making friends here as it was a small community. This is one of the things that make Summit Rainier unique, we were a small and close community, and we are not afraid to stand up for our community. I also really like the mentor program at the school, where each students are assigned to a mentor group, your mentor is like a counselor and is an adult that I trust with my future. My mentor group supports me and we will graduate together.
