I love Strath Haven. The atmosphere is a bit anxiety-inducing and very competitive, with heavy pressure to excel, but it has prepared me very well for college and life in general. Most (but not all) of the teachers are very caring and helpful and passionate about the subjects they teach. The school provides a huge list of opportunities for anyone to pursue the things they love, from marching band (it's super cool here, for some reason) to sports, from music to acting, or all of the above, as many students take on probably too many activities. We're stressed out but happy at Strath Haven, and I'd never pick any other school to be my own.
Review Strath Haven High School
A unique aspect about Strath Haven is its block scheduling. Students can pick certain classes, and everyone has only four classes a semester. This fostered a closer relationship among students and teachers because more time and focus was spent with each class. With the freedom of picking certain classes, I was able to have my classes adjusted to my interests, and this was helpful in preparing for my future because I gained more experiences in subjects that I would actually use in the long run.
What are more important are social experiences I have been able to encounter throughout high school. The fact that underclassmen in my organizations listened and respected my opinions, made me become more confident in my own abilities. The majority of the school is open to uniqueness, and we take pride in our overall culture.
I love how at Strath Haven, you can be involved in everything. The fifth block schedule allows students to participate in music, and still make it to a sports practice on time. Because many people take advantage of this, most people are involved in a multitude of activities, and as a result, there are no stereotypical "cliques". Groups of friends are not classified as "band geeks" or "jocks", because, at Strath Haven, the basketball player is also in the marching band, science olympiad, and a handful of other activities. Anyone can be friends with anyone because we are all one big group.
The one downside to attending Strath Haven is that the stress level is very high. There is a good amount of work given to the students, and a lot of pressure to take challenging classes. However, because of this, I feel ready for college. I know that my teachers have prepared me well.
