I graduated from what is now called Kidder County Steele High School in 2015. Some of the things that I liked at this school were how friendly the teachers and students were to everyone else. People would go out of their way to how your day was going. One of the things I didn't like about the school was the cafeteria food. I understand that the lunch program has restriction on what it can serve, but we had the same meals three of the five days of the week.
We don't have a school nurse or special security measures. There is rarely any bulling. If there is bullying, it doesn't occur in the hallways since teachers are watching. I generally think our school is safe because everyone seems to get along with each other. I also think it's because we live in a small town. Larger towns seem to have a higher rate of bullying.
There is plenty of resources available to students. The technology is great. The busing is also great for kids who live far away from the school. The guidance counselors are somewhat available.
I think that the workload can be tough sometimes. It can especially be tough when there are tests on the same day. I teachers are available for ones needs. There are popular classes that people take such as spanish and anatomy.
Some teachers do not teach from what they know. They mostly teach from out of the book. Also, the teacher do not make up their own tests. They find questions from the internet which us students could find the answers to. The communication skills on the other hand is very good. They are there if there is a question you need to ask.
There are plenty of computers available to students. The school building is in great shape and there are several new sections to the school. The guidance counselor is great and helps out with college prep. Tutoring is hard to come by for the high school students. Parents get very involved.
I really like the experience at this school. A lot of students are involved in choir and sports which makes it a big deal to be involved. My favorite experience would be the after prom party. Our school brought a hypnotist which was very interesting and fun to see. Also, grades 7th-12th puts together a lip sync for homecoming week. I found this to be really fun because it makes you look forward to something. What makes our school unique is that everyone comes together and will cheer for our team at our games. You will see a lot of school spirit from our school.
The school administration is ver good at our school. The guidance counselor is somewhat helpful for helping students plan our future. I think that our counselor needs to help the seniors decide what their future will be. Bullying is not a problem in our school.
Overall my experience has been great. I have made good friends, the teachers and administrators are great, and it is a great small town environment. My favorite experiences would be: being involved in track, taking online dual credit courses, and being in a small school. The small school allows for there to be fun activities not available at a large school.
Our school's food service is okay. We have a snack machine in the hallway which is used quite often. For our lunch, we do not have many choices. The food is usually the same every two weeks. I think we need more options for food.
For the first few years of high school, there are limited electives for you to take. There are a lot of electives to take once you hit junior and senior years. There are a lot of options for online dual credit courses. The curriculum is pretty average. Sometimes it can be challenging. The workload can get overwhelming. There are study halls offered. The teachers are helpful and they care. It is easy to schedule classes.
We have a fitness program during the summer that students can take which prepares them to be stronger and faster. Also, we have great school spirit. Our school has won the school spirit award for Girl's State Basketball. We also have a weight lifting room for students to access whenever they choose to after or during school.
The administration at our school is very good. The administrators and faculty to their best and actually care. There are strict policies on bullying. The dress code is enforced for the most part. Attendance is enforced as much as possible. They only allow us ten days a semester to miss. The guidance counselor is very helpful as well. The principal is also very helpful, friendly, but is also strict.
There are not many healthy or alternative options to the main meals at lunch. There is no variety, but they do accommodate to special diets for particular kids. There are snacks in the snack machine. The kitchen is clean for the most part. The meals are expensive for the average family.
