Starpoint High School Reviews
Rating 3.82 out of 5 152 reviews
Overall, I had a mostly positive experience at Starpoint. The majority of teachers were friendly, encouraging, and understanding, with a few exceptions. I'm thankful for all of the activities and organizations I was able to participate in. I was also able to earn a lot of college credit through AP and duel enrollment classes. I would have liked to have been able to learn more life skills, such as how to manage finances and apply for jobs. I also would have liked there to be more of a focus on the wellbeing and mental health of students, as many of us were involved in numerous extracurricular activities on top of our rigorous coursework. Stress, anxiety, and burnout were common among many of my peers who felt pressure to always do well and to succeed. It would have been helpful to have learned methods of balancing academic, extracurricular, and other responsibilities, while also taking care of ourselves and our mental health. I think it's important to learn these skills early on.
Starpoint is full of support for extracurriculars and creativity. Grades are prioritized, and help is offered if a student is struggling. The Diversity of the students is very little, but the school does at least try to be inclusive; there’s Diversity Club, VYO Club (Voice Your own Opinion), and more. The music department in SHS is amazing; I would know as I have been involved all 4 years. We always have huge musicals and even a fall play! There are 3 Choruses and 4 bands, including Pep Band. The students though, often have a bad reputation. If I tell someone I’m from Starpoint they respond with a dissapointed “Oh”. Which I dont blame them for. Due to lack of diversity within the students, some people are homophobic, rasist, etc. Because of a bad bunch of kids, we all get grouped as this. But, Starpoint is trying their best to become more inclusive, which I amend them for as a LGBTQ+ individual. So yes, there are some flaws but SHS is an overall good school.
Starpoint is a great school to me because I was able to attend the same campus from K-12. All of my teachers were supportive, and all of the programs that are offered there are pretty cool. They are all supportive to all of their students.
The only thing I would like to see change is the parking lot which will be updated with new budget money, leaving school is very difficult on a busy road.
