Well, my mom attended the school and was in the first graduating class so I knew I wanted to be a Gator! I love the freedom of choice I have with classes/electives. I made really great friends and joined different athletic activities and made more. I wish there weren’t so many cliques, especially between IB students and the other kids, but I guess that’s how high school is. I also wish I had more career focused classes and opportunities but I took advantage of what I could in my senior year.

Standley Lake High School offers a large variety of AP, honors, and IB classes, which, allow students to challenge themselves. These classes encourage students to do their best on schoolwork and challenge themselves. Many extracurricular activities and sports are also offered. Students can enroll in swimming, diving, tennis, football, soccer, and hockey. As for extracurricular activities, Standley Lake offers a key club, student council, National Honors Society, gaming club, speech and debate, and so much more. Another aspect I enjoyed about this school is the school spirit teachers and students hold. Each friday, you can wear your Standley Lake gear or the school colors--blue and green--to show school spirit. For every assembly, teachers encourage students to participate. One thing I would improve is for teachers to make classes more interactive as well so students stay engaged in lectures.
I have really enjoyed my time at SLHS. Every teacher that I have had is dedicated to their students and ensuring that they reach their fullest potential. The AP program at Standley has helped me thrive, and I feel prepared for the next step in my educational journey. In addition to the academic aspect, the staff at SLHS does their best to make the high school experience fun, and there are plenty of ways for all types of students to become involved around the school. I have participated in soccer, basketball, orchestra, and NHS, and some of my favorite high school experiences have come out of these activities. Staff and students have created a safe environment to attend school and learn while being surrounded by people who care about you.
