The education we wish we had received! We just completed our first year at St Stephens with three of our kids and we were blown away. Everything from the exhaustive approach to English grammar/writing/phonetic learning, to the emphasis on character, to the Latin that begins in 4th, to the teachers who are loved and respected…all of it was beyond. Our children memorized more in one year than most do in their entire lives. They started debate in 4th grade that just blew me away with their super early ability to use rhetoric. The music and art programs are off the charts. I just think of the word “abundance” when I think of our school. We feel the foundation this school gives (classical education is something I only learned of through attempting to homeschool for a year and fell in love with it) is necessary and beautiful. Our children in one year have increased in knowledge, wisdom, knowledge of God’s word, and creatively as well. Can’t wait to see what the future holds!
We are so grateful that we found SSA! Our older daughter started at SSA as a Kindergarten during the pandemic back in 2020. The school had a an excellent plan and execution to switch students from offline to online classes. The staff monitored the situation closely and communicated clearly and openly with every change, and made sure all families have the support they need in order to continue nurturing the students. We also really enjoy the right amount of parents involvement. Huge kudos to the staff and Headmaster, Mr. Koch! We know the students are in great hands with his strong leadership!
This is a classical, christian school that focuses not just on the development of their students' knowledge, but also the development of their character. The classes have a very high rigour, but the small class size means that the teachers truly care for the individual success of each and every student. There is a wonderful and unique sense of community within the school, being quite small. Being a classical school, we focus hard on the fine arts such as music, speech/writing, and art. However, due to the small size of the school, we don't have as wide an array of opportunities for the students with regards to AP and elective courses.
