St. Petersburg High School is comprised of its meaningful traditions, historic campus, and ambitious students. However, the school’s pride in its reputation consistently allows for minority groups to be belittled. Rather than dealing with racist, sexist, and elitist students and clubs, the school brushes over problems with threats to end events and traditions if parents and news outlets become involved. No credit is given to clubs who perform meaningful work in the community. Only clubs made up of a white majority, sports, and academics ever receive recognition. I would like administration to enforce real consequences for racism and bullying and recognize students that are positively impacting the community. Teachers must also face consequences for gossiping with students, picking favorites, and perpetuating student drama. Administration allows an array of injustices which creates a toxic school environment. There must be a way for students to voice these concerns and receive change.

There are many things to love and dislike about this school as with any other. Among the benefits of attending St. Pete High are the many programs that it offers its students. Whether its AP, IB, Dual Enrollment, Traditional, Construction, or Management, there is a program out there for students to explore. From experience, both the AP and IB curriculums are challenging and help students understand their academic potential. Tradition is also important: Interschool rivalries, myths about ghosts, and the split courtyards for lunch are somethings I will miss going off into college. Teachers aren't scary either. I am never afraid to ask them for tutoring or help outside of school if im ever struggling. They are there to help you succeed!
My experience at Saint Petersburg High is pretty ok for the most part. The atmosphere is very different from what I am used to being born and raised in Orlando, FL Orange County. For this review of my school, I'll start with the positives than on the negatives and my overall opinion. My first positive comment on this school is that there were many opportunities for me to succeed in school and when I graduate school. I am part of the dual enrollment program at Saint Petersburg High and PTEC in which I have the privilege to do high school classes and college classes in the same year. My second positive comment is that there are a lot of clubs, sports, and organizations in Saint Petersburg High. I appreciate the fact that there is something for everybody to be interested in. Now for my negative comment, me personally there isn't much diversity in race/ethnicity between students and staff/administration. My overall opinion about Saint Petersburg High is that it's a decent regular school.
