My son transferred from a large public high school and plays football and basketball. I cannot say enough about how embracing the community has been. The students represent many religions, cultures, communities, ethnicities, educational and economic backgrounds; this diversity is one of the BEST aspects of the school. It has small class sizes, outstanding student to teacher and counselor ratios, and is a more progressive educational setting under the leadership of Mr. Spellman. The school focuses on personalized learning. Each student with family and counselor develops an academic pathway based on learning level, style, and interests. SMCHS follows a block schedule providing more time for students to work in groups, meet with teachers and complete homework. Best of all SMCHS is FUN! All the kids participate in school events and support one another in their sports, musicals, and other endeavors.

If you want a truly honest review about this school, read this. This school does a very good job in advertising. They love making little pamphlets, posters, and all that pizzaz to give parents and future students a great impression of the school. So, hooray! I've been accepted into the school, and I totally fell for their little cover up. First thing I immediately notice about this school is that the teachers have clear favorites. It's hard to make friends because most of the students come from the same middle school, so they already have their tight little clicks. Yet the school stresses the importance of being part of "one family". As for academics, what a joke. If this school truly cared about their students they would understand how hard some of them work to be place in AP and honors classes. I know a student who has received all As and Bs in their class, and has passed two of the ridiculous "qualifying exams", yet they have been rejected all four years.
This school is a wonderful, small community that emphasizes "being part of a family." At my old school, there wasn't that much friendliness between the grades. Here, everyone from freshmen to seniors know each other by name and cheer them on. I made fast friends within my first week here. The facilities are great: a spacious gym, dance and music rooms, and a great auditorium. Teachers are welcoming and are happy to help! Student engagement is high: in my time here, I have seen ASB and class councils go above and beyond in creating fun environments for the whole student body to enjoy. Check this school out if you want an amazing environment to enjoy your high school years in!
