My experience at SMMHS was one that was average. It is a very small school. A campus that has elementary, middle, and high school all connected. This school does not have your average school festivities and does not celebrate or highlight things that was is considered "normal" in the media and in many peoples worlds. We do not have many sports, including a football team. I do not feel the love for my school like my parents felt for theirs. But neither of my parents were born and raised here. I wish I could have experienced something bigger, something different.
I think Saint Michaels High School was a great high school to attend. the small welcoming atmosphere was such a beneficial learning environment. My freshman year, I transferred to Saint Michael's High School which after attending Easton middle school, which is about 20 minutes away from where I lived. I had an awful middle school experience and dealt with much bullying as well as struggled in school due to ADD and a learning disability. I was not able to learn in this unfit environment, therefore I needed a change to be able to succeed. Transferring to Saint Michael's was the most beneficial thing I could have done, I went from failing and not understanding to getting the help I needed to succeed and graduating with honors and was able to continue my academics at Chesapeake Community College and am currently in their Nursing program. I have come a long way and can thank Saint Michael's High school for helping me get to where I am today!
St. Michaels has provided a very close nit environment for the students and teachers. Since St. Michaels middle and high school are connected, this allows the teachers to watch the kids grow as they become successful in our environment. On the other hand, our school is very lenient with some students versus others. Some students that get straight A's and are interactive within the community are reprimanded every day for very minor things. Meanwhile, other students get away with screaming at the teachers and wandering the hallways all day. It has created an extremely unfair environment for the kids that actually do their work and wish to succeed but are consistently held back for the actions of others.
