We have attended St Matthews for the last two years (PK) and have nothing but amazing things to say about our experience. The school truly takes a holistic learning approach when educating, developing and nurturing their students and parents. We feel blessed to be able to give our child this opportunity and exposure. In addition the campus culture has been supportive and inclusive as we get to know families along our journey. Truly a special place!

This is our second full year at St. Matthew's and we now have 2 kids in the lower school. Our experience to date has been nothing short of exceptional across nearly every measure. We're early in our kids educational journey but to say they come home from school everyday excited about their teachers, their classmates, the learning process and the school community as a whole is a vast understatement. We see the impact the school and the school community is having on them on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. They are challenged and supported in the classroom and, as important, they are acquiring the skills and tools necessary to mature and grow into thoughtful, curious, engaged, kind and empathetic young people. This is why we chose St. Matthew's and the school (the teachers, administrators and other faculty) is delivering on this promise every day. We feel extraordinarily fortunate and grateful to be part of this special St. Matthew's community.
On a positive note, the new addition was a needed and well designed endeavor. Now students have a proper place for sporting events and brighter classroom space for middle schoolers.

For the intangibles, parents often referenced how well-mannered the kids were, but we found this came at the hefty expense of a vibrant and creative energy within the classroom and a marked absence of an esprit de corps among teachers and faculty . This contrast was brought into greater relief when we visited Carey, the other private school with similar (30K) tuition. There was a feeling of joyful community and palpable creativity across all disciplines and ages on that campus.

A desire for a child-oriented, collective and collaborative spirit, and better academics (we were not on par with the local public school in math, science, or foreign language, which is not acceptable to us for the tuition) led us out of SMEDS.
