I'm SO grateful for my St.Margaret's class-of-2021 experience! The school cares deeply for their student body, including POC requiring financial aid like me.
Cons: Freshman year was jarring, lonely, and strange. Why? As a former public-school student, the unfamiliar social dynamics can be isolating. But once you "break in" like you do with a new pair of socks, you'll feel right at home. By senior year, everyone's tight and snug!
If you're new, be on the lookout for "gems:" amazing classmates who are sincere, understanding, and friendly. The staff however, are ALL gems: Mr.Moseley, Dr.Graham, Ms.Bunch, Mario the custodian-- the list goes on!
Also, don't kill yourself with the workload. The classes here are REALLY hard. Excessive amounts of pressure from parents or students themselves can lead to anxiety, depression, or suicidal tendencies. I went through this, but when I reached out, I received help from the AMAZING support system here. And don't forget the best one: prayer to God!

I have 2 children at St. Margaret's and I can't say enough good things about the school and the environment. They really do try to develop the whole child. It isn't just a factory trying to turn out 4.0 students with 1600 SAT scores! Yes it is competitive, but in a good way. Many of the students have been at the school since pre school! The facilities are amazing - better than 99% of the colleges out there. The teachers really care and for the most part, the parents are great. Yes, there are the occasional obnoxious parent, but they usually get chopped down to size cuz there is always someone wealthier and more successful than them :-)
If you want your child to develop into a great adult with compassion and drive, then SMES is an excellent place to go.

What I liked about the St.Margaret's experience is how much it is preparing me for a four-year university. Coming to this school as a freshman was a bit overwhelming because of the high pressure that is placed on academics and extracurriculars, as well as the strange social dynamics. The stress and fear that students face on tests, SATS, and college applications is palpable, and it is not uncommon that some students have anxiety and depression (but you don't hear about it a lot, it's kept under the rug).
Other than that, this is a great school! I've made great friends and I love it here!
