I attended Saint Leo's middle school for three years. During this time I met many different people and created friendships that are still strong, even after graduating. The school handled the Covid-19 Pandemic well and allowed for students to choose whether to stay in school or participate online. This was an awesome option that helped different students. I really only have two issues with the school, the first being the science department. While the school has a partnership with the Lab Learner program the actual teaching of this material is lacking the depth and explanation that should have been provided. This resulted in students creating study groups to learn the material outside of class and caused them to not feel prepared for HS. The other issue is that of teasing, it is not constant enough to be considered bullying but can still be hurtful. Overall I really liked the school and was glad of the opportunities it gave me, I plan to continue to support my school as time goes on.
Like any school it has it's disadvantages and advantages. There is only 1 advanced program (math) and if you don't pass the test in 4th grade, its extremely difficult to get in after. Science is not interesting and it's just reading off the textbook and doing simple, predictable experiments. The academics are a bit more advanced than public school and rules are more enforced, but many people are talked bad about by other students and there really isn't anybody to talk to since they don't actually have a guidance counselor. Its not a horrible school, but it could be better.
Our child has has reached the end of his tolerance at St Leo’s. The bullying he endured no child should go through. Not only from a classmate but faculty no less.
Not all fall in this category - in the four years there have been some wonderful teachers! The failure is with the administration staff.
Suspension should not be used to handle a situation you do not want to deal with. Facts need to be reviewed to
The outcome was positive and scary for my child to start a new school mid year. I can say that leaving st Leo’s was the best thing for his moral and mindset.
Thanks to St Leo’s he is in a better place and has gained self esteem to stand up for himself.
